European Film and Audiovisual Sector Joint Statement Regarding the Proposed AgoraEU – MEDIA+ Programme
In 2026, the MEDIA programme will celebrate its 35th anniversary. This successful programme has enabled film and audiovisual professionals to promote cultural diversity, safeguard democratic values, strengthen a shared European identity and foster social cohesion. The programme’s beneficiaries, members of the associations signing the statement dated April 20, 2026, including CEPI, represent the economic strength and soft power of the European Union, an essential resource in today’s world.
The document calls on the European Parliament and the Member States to preserve the identity and fundamental objectives of the Creative Europe – MEDIA programme, strengthening its impact across the entire audiovisual sector and keeping cultural and artistic value at its core. It is reiterated that MEDIA must continue to be the main European instrument supporting the independent audiovisual sector, promoting cultural diversity, the circulation of European works and the strengthening of the entire sector, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises and all professionals involved.
To ensure stability and growth, the predictability of resources is essential, with a clearly defined budget allocation reserved for the audiovisual sector.
