Film AV Sector Joint Statement – Geoblocking Review
APA, together with more than 50 organizations from the entire cinema and audiovisual ecosystem, signs a letter in supporto of the conclusions reached by the European Commission in its first revisione of the so-called “Geo-Blocking Regulation”.
The Commission confirmed the exclusion of audiovisual content from the scope of the regulation, in line with several sector studies to which their inclusion would have had a very negative impact on the industry and on the use of content by consumers.
In order to find a compromise between the EC’s intention to increase the availability of content throughout the European community and the need for our sector to safeguard its business model based on territoriality, the letter invites the Commission to focus on European cooperation on financing and distribution, including through co-productions and / or pre-sales, as a fundamental lever to support the ambition of the film and audiovisual sector to enrich the diversity of contents and distribution options in the territory of each Member State of the EU for the benefit of consumers.
